Essential Travel Skincare: Your Guide to Great Skin On-the-Go

Essential Travel Skincare: Your Guide to Great Skin On-the-Go

Spring travels are on the horizon so we asked several Lexli employees to share their must-have travel skincare essentials. Read on for top recommendations to keep your skin looking and feeling its best while away from home.

Packing the Right Travel Skincare Essentials

When preparing for a trip, deciding what makes the cut in limited suitcase space can be a challenge. (And if you're also packing for kids and maybe even a significant other, you know the struggle is real!) Skincare is often overlooked, but to ensure our skin looks its best during our getaway and is also protected, packing the right products is a must. Air travel and changes in climate can strip moisture from your skin, making hydration a top priority. Meanwhile, late nights and even environmental conditions can have an impact on how your skin looks.

We've got you covered with five skincare products that deserve a place in everyone's suitcase. These recommendations come courtesy of Lexli employees who agreed that these are the products they never leave behind.

Goal: A multi-purpose product that soothes skin

Solution: Tone & Balance Hydrating Toner

Tone & Balance stays is a multi-purpose workhorse of a skincare product. This aloe-based toner can be used to remove final traces of makeup and debris after cleansing skin, soothes skin after shaving, calms skin exposed to too much sun, and offers light hydration.

Goal: Reduce undereye puffiness and circles

Solution: Revital-Eyes Brightening & Firming Eye Cream

Revital-Eyes is a peptide-rich eye cream packed with advanced ingredients to reduce signs of aging while keeping the delicate under-eye area looking refreshed. It's perfect for helping you look refreshed after a late night out on vacation.

Goal: A gentle facial cleanser that can be used on the body

Solution: Complete Cleanser Aloe Cleansing Gel

Complete Cleanser is another multi-use skincare essential. It effectively removes makeup and gently cleanses the face while doubling as a body wash and shave gel. Skin is left feeling soft, while the product's base of aloe vera ensures it feels hydrated.

Goal: Long-lasting body hydration and relief from sunburn/irritation

Solution: Ultimate Hand & Body Cream

Ultimate Hand & Body Cream is a go-to product for instant relief from dryness and irritation. Apply in the morning for hydration that lasts all day - and, if you get too much sun, an application of Hand & Body Cream will offer instant relief.

Goal: An immediate "lifted" appearance to skin

Solution: LuminousLift Aloe Vera Mask

Before a special outing or event, nothing compares to the temporary lift and glow your skin achieves from a LuminousLift mask. Apply before getting ready for dinner or at the end of the night while you’re relaxing in that deep soak tub in your room.

Preparing Your Skin for Travel

Preparing your skin for travel is essential to ensure it remains healthy and radiant throughout your journey. Before embarking on your trip, be sure to prep your skin by consistently following a skincare routine that, at minimum, covers the basics (cleanse, exfoliate, moisturizer, protect with sunscreen). This will help to hydrate your skin, making it more resilient to environmental stressors. For sensitive skin, consider using gentle, fragrance-free products to minimize irritation. Additionally, exfoliate your skin 1-2 days before travel to remove dead skin cells and unclog pores. This simple step will leave your skin looking its very best before all those photos are taken!

Choosing the Right Products in the Right Amounts

Before packing skincare for travel, consider the length of your trip and the activities you plan to do. For a weekend getaway, small travel sizes of essentials like cleanser, moisturizer, and sunscreen will suffice. Look for travel containers that are compact, lightweight, and easy to carry in your bag. (We like the travel capsules from Cadence but a more cost-effective option is to simply reuse empty eye cream jars.) To save space, opt for multi-purpose products that can serve more than one purpose, such as a moisturizer with SPF or cleansing gel that can be used as body wash. For makeup, choose travel-size versions of your favorites and products that are easy to apply and remove, such as a makeup remover wipes (generally not our favorite but a convenient option when traveling). These convenient options will save space in your bag while ensuring you have everything you need to keep your skin looking its best.

Essential Travel Skincare Products

When it comes to travel skincare, there are a few essential products you should never leave behind:

  • A gentle cleanser that effectively removes dirt and impurities without stripping your skin of its natural oils

  • A hydrating moisturizer that provides long-lasting hydration and soothes skin that may become irritated or sensitive

  • A broad-spectrum sunscreen with at least SPF 30 to protect your skin from harmful UV rays

  • For sensitive skin, consider packing a soothing facial toner to calm and hydrate your skin on-the-go

These essentials will help you maintain healthy, hydrated skin no matter where your travels take you.
